The Memory Remains

Why can’t we coexist?
I stand here,
Seemingly betrayed by the feelings that persist.
Bound, tied, forevermore.
Fleeting memories of pain fading away.
Yet we stand on opposite sides of the door.

Destiny broke what was pure.
A soul defiled, a soul insecure.
What is real?
How can a heart heal?
Time, past, forgotten.
Endlessly chasing the never again.
Crushed eternally by sin.

Reanimate, and kill.
Forever haunted by innocent blood spilled.
Despite it all, there remains only one thing I feel.
A heart does not lie.
It refuses to change its ways, even as days go by.
Bound, always tied.
Even in the belief of severing chains.
The memory remains.
